Dualtech and Ibiden reaches out to more communities in Palawan for CSR activities

Dualtech and electronics firm, Ibiden Philippines, visited Palawan to reach various communities and meet key local leaders. The trip aimed to raise awareness and reach out to potential scholars, and also to recruit potential technical staff for Ibiden.

It could be recalled how last January 25 to 27, the provincial government’s scholarship program officer, Ms. Ma. Victoria B. Baaco, visited Dualtech together with Raymundo Quicho, Security Officer and GAD Program Coordinator, who acted as representative of Gov. V. Dennis M. Socrates. The guests interacted with and heard updates from 184 scholars, some of whom entered Dualtech starting November last year. This was followed by a visit of Gov. Dennis Socrates himself in February for a tour of the school and updates on the current scholars and collaborations. The distinguished guests met scholars from Aborlan, Brooke’s Point, Dumaran, Narra, Quezon, Roxas, Sofronio Española, and Taytay studying Electromechanics Technology course in the Calamba campus. The visitors witnessed and interviewed the trainees while they were actively engaged in mechanical, automation, welding, electrical, and electronic activities.

Later, during the get-together which was attended by over a hundred scholars, the students were thankful how training at Dualtech gave them a new sense of direction, and not just that it was a means to help their families back in the province.
Also, Sister Marissa of St. Ezekiel Parish in Palawan visited Dualtech Training Center to see the scholars under the program of the Provincial Government, known as the SPS ALAY SA KABATAAN “Programang Pang-Edukasyon Para sa Palaweño”.

After the various career talks campaigns in the province in 2023, the teams of Ibiden and Dualtech visited Palawan for a series of activities which included local recruitment activity, donation of laptops to ALS teacher and GAD officers, and meeting with the parents and potential scholars.

The series of career and recruitment activities in Palawan began with courtesy calls with key local officials, such as Governor Dennis Socrates, Mayor Hon. Edna Gacot Lim of El Nido Palawan and Mayor Christian V. Rodriguez in the Taytay LGU. The visit was followed soon after by an orientation in Taytay Palawan with Dualtech, Ms. Marivic Baaco – Program Manager, and Mr. Raymund Quicho, GAD Program Coordinator for a new incoming batch of Palawan scholars under the scholarship program of the “SPS Alay sa Kabataan” Program. According to Ms. Baaco, Taytay currently has 54 Techvoc scholars, with 47 of them training in Dualtech. A laptop donation ceremony was also held where Ibiden gave eight of these units to ALS teachers and to the GAD for barangay monitoring. The teachers said they will maximize the equipment for the “digital citizenship” program of Deped.

One particular laptop recipient, Ms. Janet Gavania, is a teacher for elementary-level and high school-level learners under the Alternative Learning System in Taytay Provincial Jail. Despite the challenges of implementing learning inside the jail, she is optimistic her work will lead to these PDLs having a chance to change their lives. Ibiden presented her with a laptop donation to help her in her teaching delivery. Another laptop grantee of Ibiden was Ms. Elvie Gonzaga, also a Gender and Development (GAD) Liaison Officer from Roxas, Palawan. Through her effort, Roxas Palawan was able to send 20 scholars, of which 5 are waiting to go to Dualtech.

With these developments in Palawan, this means much work lies ahead in 2024. As regards potential partnerships, Dualtech recently welcomed a contingent from coffee and beverage company Equilibrium Intertrade, along with representatives from the Anihan Technical School, and the Information, Scholarship, and Gender and Development Office staff of the Palawan LGU. The agenda for the meeting included future trainees and scholars from the province. EQ is optimistic about future expansion in Palawan, initially with projects such as a coffee farm that supports coffee farmers in the region.

Dualtech would like to express its appreciation for the support and assistance coming from various sectors, such as The St Ezekiel Moreno Center of Spirituality, Bishop Broderick Pabillo, various Local Government Units, DepEd, the local parishes, Gender and Development Brgy Monitoring Group, and the SPS ALAY SA KABATAAN Program.
