Calabarzon Dual Training System (DTS) Congress

TESDA Region IV-A hosted the 2nd Calabarzon DTS Congress in General Trias Cultural and Convention Center, General Trias, Cavite on October 17, 2014. Technical and Vocational Institutions, company partners from Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, and Quezon, and TESDA directors joined together to strengthen the partnership among the DTS key players by providing skills training in vocational courses.

In this training modality which was pioneered by Dualtech Training Center, the trainees acquire job skills that match the industry needs. To invite more schools and companies, TESDA and BIR representative discussed the tax incentives.

The Outstanding DTS Partner was awarded to Phimco Industries, Inc., a partner of Dualtech Center since 1993. The company was selected according to the number of beneficiaries over the past 3 years, employment absorption, and training subsidy. Mr. Rodrigo Ortiz, Business Development Manager, said “ Phimco values the partnership with Dualtech as a way of helping the poor but deserving students in the community. We consider their employment a responsibility, a part of our Corporate Social Responsibility. ”

The Outstanding Training Coordinator was given to Mr. Ronaldo Lopez, HR Supervisor of Honda Philippines. Mr. Lopez has served his role as coordinator since the start of Dualtech and Honda partnership in 2003. “By partnering with schools like Dualtech Center, we are assured of the collaboration that benefit the trainees in skills development and work values. In Honda Philippines, we are committed to extend this program to other neighboring companies in Batangas and other associations we belong. This program is a win-win partnership among the companies, schools, and trainees”, he said.

The Outstanding Industrial Coordinator was given to Mr. Rommel Guinto, Industrial Coordinator of Dualtech since 1998. He was chosen among the many candidates from technical schools by the number of companies forged partnership in DTS program, placed trainees and absorption rate, coordination, monitoring, and evaluation of trainees, and company assisted in DTS Accreditation. He was also rated being a DTS advisor and advocate.

Telford SVC Philippines was recognized as outstanding employer by hiring its trainees after the DTS program. The certificate was received by Ms. Normita Araza, Operations Director, and Ms. Romualdie Lobo, HR Manager.

Mr. Cris Malaiba, Manager for Partners and Programs of Dualtech Center shared the DTS Experience. An audio visual presentation was presented summarizing how the school pioneered the implementation of DTS in the Philippines.

Cooperation among key players is essential in promoting the Dual Training System in the Philippines.
