ABS-CBN Employees give Pledges to support Dualtech Scholars

ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya (ABLK), a public service arm of ABS-CBN Corporation, initiated a project to raise funds for scholarship and sponsorship to Dualtech students. These young aspirants come from different backgrounds but with a common goal – to be educated and eventually get a job.
The employees of the Kapamilya station gave pledges from their own salary to invest on the future of selected Dualtech scholars in the electromechanics course. This was made possible after the success of its scholars supported from Punlaan school – a hospitality and culinary school for women which employs the similar approach of dual training system in a tourism-related establishment. Dualtech scholars will be assisted during their 6-month basic training in electrical, mechanical, and electronics trades. They will then move to the industry partners for an intensive training under the supervision of its seasoned trainors and engineers.
The fund will help 17 scholars and one of them is Jomar Cabello from an adopted community of ABS-CBN in Balete Batangas. After completing the senior high school level, Jomar worked as contractual worker in a Taiwanese company in Batangas. And as he looked for better opportunities, Jomar enrolled at Dualtech and is now having his in-plant training in a Japanese firm that manufactures precision parts and modules of compressors in Batangas.
Joshua, 21, from Bohol had to stop from high school to work as a fisherman to help his father whose income from dressmaking is not sufficient to support the expenses of the family. “Mahirap lang ang aming buhay at ako ang naghahanap ng trabaho para makabili ng bigas.” He still pursued finishing high school through the Alternative Learning System (ALS) where his teacher mentioned about Dualtech and the many opportunities in taking its program. “Bitbit ko ang aking pangarap na balang araw ay aahon kami sa hirap at matutulungan ko ang aking magulang at kapatid.”
Ramiro, a native of Tayabas Quezon and a son of a farmer, is grateful for being one of the beneficiaries of the fund raising activity of ABLK. “Malaking tulong po ito lalo na sa aking magulang para hindi na nila isipin ang panggastos nila sa akin. Pagbubutihan ko ang aking training para makatapos upang makatulong sa aking magulang at sa ibang taong maaring mangailangan ng aking tulong.” Ramiro has started his training in a semiconductor and electronics company in Calamba City.
ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya has supported Dualtech for its program of bridging the gap from training to employment with primary emphasis on values formation. The foundation is also committed to its mission to build sustainable model communities by improving the quality of education and livelihood opportunities through partnerships and the advocacy through media.
