Dualtech and DSWD Palawan Reach Remote Communities in Balabac to Promote Skills Training and Employment
In partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Regional Office MIMAROPA, DSWD Palawan, and local Municipal Links assigned to various barangays, Dualtech Training Center Foundation conducted a series of community orientations in the municipality of Balabac, Palawan.
The activity introduced Dualtech’s training program to out-of-school youth, senior high school graduates, and Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries. Through this collaboration, DSWD continues to support initiatives that provide sustainable pathways for beneficiaries to acquire skills, secure employment, and improve their families’ economic conditions.
The community visit began in Barangay Bancalaan, one of the coastal communities of Balabac known for its fishing livelihood and remote location. The Dualtech team paid a courtesy visit to barangay officials to introduce the training program and discuss opportunities available to local youth. This was followed by an orientation session in Sitio Marabon, where 4Ps beneficiaries, out-of-school youth, and parents gathered to learn more about the program.
Participants expressed interest in the Dual Training System (DTS), particularly its combination of in-school and on-the-job training with industry partners. Many shared that employment opportunities within Balabac—and even in the province—remain limited, while access to higher education is often constrained by the limited number of degree programs available in nearby institutions. For many families, Dualtech’s training program offers a practical alternative that can lead directly to employment and career development.
The team then proceeded to Barangay Poblacion, the center of municipal government and commercial activities in Balabac. During a courtesy visit to the Municipal Office, local officials welcomed the program and recognized its potential to benefit the municipality’s youth. They highlighted that, beyond technical training, the program provides trainees with allowances during their training period, helping ease the financial burden on families while allowing scholars to pursue skills development. Most importantly, the prospect of employment after training was viewed as a significant advantage for young people seeking better opportunities.
The final leg of the visit was held in Barangay Catagupan, another community where residents demonstrated strong interest in the program. Several participants, including students currently enrolled in college, attended the orientation to explore alternative pathways toward employment. They were particularly attracted to the program’s hands-on approach, shorter training duration, and strong employment prospects. A local parent leader voiced her support for the initiative, emphasizing the opportunities available in the CALABARZON Region and the National Capital Region for skilled workers.
By bringing information and opportunities directly to geographically isolated communities such as Balabac, the collaboration helps bridge the gap between vulnerable sectors and industries in need of skilled workers. Through continued coordination with DSWD Regional Office MIMAROPA, DSWD Palawan, local government units, and community leaders, Dualtech hopes to provide more young Filipinos with access to quality technical training and employment opportunities, enabling them to contribute to the development of their families and communities.
