Work With All Our Heart
“I was struck when one of my managers told me that I must impress first with the good attitude and have good values towards work; because technical skills can be acquired in the short period of time but attitude cannot be taught in an instant; it is a long process to change. I learned that work is not just for me but to be offered with all our hearts to God. -- ANTHONY R. CASTRODES from Bohol | Awardee, Silver Merit, Outstanding In-school and In-Plant, and Learning Excellence | Trained at Union Galvasteel
There’s a saying, “the secret of life though is to fall seven times and to get up eight times,” reminds me that whatever trials that I encountered, there is always hope.
After my graduation in high school, my ultimate dream was to become an engineer. But, sad to say, I was not able to pursue it because of many circumstances. I worked in a mall as a bagger to help my parents and also to save money to take my tertiary education. At a night, I even wondered whether what I was doing was enough to earn to pursue college? One day, my parents lent me a small piece of agricultural land. They told me, cultivate this land for yourself to earn money for your tertiary education; and it was quite challenging. It was at this time I learned how difficult it was to be a farmer; to plant rice, to plow the soil, to clean the rice field and others. The job was not easy, the weather was not always good because it was stormy at times. When a 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit Bohol, many houses, bridges and commercial establishment were destroyed. That time I felt anxious and hopeless as if all my dreams had been destroyed. An opportunity came when someone told me about Dualtech. I didn’t hesitate to accept the opportunity to study; for to me, this was redemption from the poverty and desolation.
My journey here in Dualtech began in 2015. My first impression of this institution was very clean and quiet place to be. The rules and regulation are strictly implemented. I remembered when I was in basic training, I experienced many obstacles and hardships. I woke up early in the morning, I had to be in school at 6:00 am up to 12 noon with only 15 minutes break time. I must have proper grooming and self discipline especially in my studies. We have a system like learning by doing, values formation, and the most important thing is to have the strong faith in our God. I remember when I was in the in-plant training, I was struck when one of my managers told me that I must impress first with the good attitude and have good values towards work; because technical skills can be acquired in the short period of time but attitude cannot be taught in an instant; it is a long process to change. I learned that work is not just for me but to be offered with all our hearts to God.
