GT Foundation partnered with Dualtech Center for the Scholarship in Technical Vocational Education (STEP) Program.
On September 1, 2016, 25 scholars from Leyte and Bohol who were sponsored by GT Foundation were given Certificate of Recognition after completion of 6-Month Basic Training Program in Electromechanics Technology. These scholars were placed to Dualtech partners for the next phase of training where actual work exposure and advanced skills are to be provided.
Two scholars shared their stories during the earthquake in Bohol and Yolanda-typhoon in Leyte. After the devastation, they were forced to work to help their families who have been recovering from the loss. His cousin who graduated from Dualtech told him to apply for scholarship. He was then selected to be among the first batch of GT Foundation scholars. Mr. Cotejar is undergoing in-plant training at Asia Brewery in Cabuyao City.
Ms. Marla Santiago, Program Officer of GT Foundation, witnessed the recognition day. To inspire the scholars, she told the story of the founder, Mr. Ty, who is not a college graduate yet his hard work, patience, and perseverance brought up one of the largest banks in the Philippines - Metrobank. She also said to scholars, “Masaya ako na kayo ang napili namin as scholars. Very proud kami sa inyong lahat na papasok na sa in-plant training. Hindi na lang kayo Dualtech kundi pati na din GT Foundation scholars. Congratulations!”
During the Metrobank’s 54th Anniversary on September 05, 2016, GT Foundation invited Dualtech to attend the Anniversary Grants and Turnover Ceremony and Luncheon hosted by the Group Chairman, Dr. Goerge SK Ty in Metrobank Plaza Auditorium, Makati City. Through STEP Program, GT Foundation added sponsorship grants for 50 scholars. Mr. Arnolfo Morfe, Dualtech President said, “Once again, we would like to thank GT Foundation for sponsoring the second batch of 50 scholars from Cebu, Bohol, Palawan, Nueva Ecija, and Camarines Norte. The financial assistance has now reached other far-flung provinces to fund deserving scholars to undergo the two-year Electromechanics Technology program. This annual event paid tribute and respect to their partner foundation and communities for various initiatives that contribute for the good of the nation.
Mr. Morfe added, “Dualtech and GT Foundation share a common mission to uplift the lives of the scholars through technical training which will eventually lead to immediate jobs. By helping them, we also contribute to their families, the communities, and then make them productive citizens of our country."
GT Foundation, Inc. (GTFI) was incorporated on October 7, 2009 with the purpose of integrating the philanthropic activities of the Ty family and investing in strategic programs that respond to the basic needs of the less privileged members of the society.
